A lot of people ask me, how did I get started with wig making? To be honest, I was finding a lot of dissatisfaction in the way my weaves were coming out! I didn’t feel like they looked natural enough and at that time I was all about achieving the most natural look possible. I wanted my hair longer and fuller, so like many other people, I started looking for alternate ways of wearing extensions that could also serve as the perfect protective style.
That’s when I discovered lace wigs.
Back in 2008, there wasn’t a lot of information out there about lace wigs. As a matter of fact, there weren’t that many places online where you could buy a quality lace wig. However, I did find a wig company and bought my first full lace wig and I was elated!
Looking back it was really bad quality. I would spend a lot of time wondering how they got each strand of hair on the cap and how could I make it better. When I sat down and started dissecting this horrible quality wig, I wrote a list of all the things I liked about it and all the things that made it worse.
One thing I appreciated was if I applied it just right it looked semi-realistic... well maybe more so from a distance.
At the same time, it made me self-conscious that other people could tell I was wearing a wig. One of the reasons why I was self-conscious is because the lace was extremely thick and you could see it! Another thing was that no matter what I did, you could still see the grids of the lace and the knots from the hair seemed so big and obvious.
The desire for me to go out in public confidently wearing this wig is actually what inspired me to start learning how to make them!
So over the next couple of years, I spent a lot of time researching lace wigs, asking questions, and just a whole lot of trial and error. I went out and bought all types of supplies and after a while, I figured out how to ventilate.
Soon after that, I completed my first synthetic full lace wig!
That was absolutely life-changing and I decided to go after wig making as a career.
Wig making has become a passion of mine! I love the fact that I can help other people
whether it’s through making their custom pieces or teaching and motivating others to do the same thing that I do.
Nowadays my life consists of homeschooling my two kids, playing with my dog, and being blessed enough to do what I love so much every day!
I'm truly honored to service my community and offer my skills and expertise! As Alexis Elizabeth Co. continues to grow, I’m excited that you are here to share this journey with me and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for us.
